I understand that you may not understand but I hope that one day, you’ll see beyond the stigma and see me for who I truly am, a person deserving of respect and dignity

My life was often overshadowed by the unpredictable nature of epilepsy. Seizures would come without warning, disrupting my daily routines causing whispers to spread among my neighbors including some of my relatives, that am bewitched.

I was sidelined by some of my close relatives because of my epilepsy condition, this took away my sense of worth, I almost contemplated making a date with the chandelier. This crazy experiences from a tender age helped me navigate the challenges of living with epilepsy.

I decided not to sink into the never ending rabbit hole of despair, chose to confront it head-on with courage and resilience. I knew in my mind that this would only be possible if I acquaint myself with more knowledge to dispel the myths and empower other people in the community who had taken offense of my existence in their vicinity.

I plunged online to search more information about epilepsy in Kenya, and boom, I clicked on a website link that held a turnaround of my life and the people around me. My thirst for epilepsy information landed me to youth on the move website, I felt a sense of belonging, I found a family where they listen without judging and look at me now! I found youths who helped me get empowered and unleash the sleeping talent in me.

Am now comfortable with the stares and whispers, the fear and misunderstanding that surrounds this condition. instead of retreating into shame. I have refused to let the ignorance of others dictate my sense of worth. Instead, I see each negative reaction as an opportunity to spark dialogue and challenge misconceptions.

I know am a beacon of hope for anyone struggling to overcome adversity, am very certain, for my bravery, daring to come out has not only changed the hearts of those around me but has also paved the way for a future where differences are celebrated rather than scorned.

You can do it too! No one can put you down but yourself!
